HOLI - festival of colours

hi, tomorrow is Holi. t is among one of the most important festivals of India. its celebrated in march every year. Holi is also known as the festival of colours. the festival has originated from an old myth.

once, there was a king in power. he was so full of himself that he considered himself to be god. he forbade the worship of all gods and ordered the people to worship him instead. for all the Hindu people, this was a very harsh condition. this king had a young son, Prahlad. Prahlad worshiped the gods no matter what punishment he had to face. he would get beatings, starved for days and sent to lock up in dungeons in his fathers palace. still, he refused to give up his belief on gods. the king now tired of his son set up elaborate schemes to kill his own son. no matter what prahlad still survived, now getting impatient, he ordered his sister holika to help him. holika was now a demon. bu she had been granted with a piece of cloth which as long as she wore would make her fireproof. holika now sat on a burning pyre with prahlad on her lap. the fire grew and holika wasn't burning, but as soon as a spark touched pahlad, the magical cloth flew from holika and enveloped prahlad. prahlad survived and holika didn't. the gods them self came down from the heaven and congratulated prahlad on his bravery. this depicted the good wining over the evil.
every year before the celebrations of holi, people gather together to burn pyres. the next day, people gather together to play with colors. this is one of the most enjoyed festivals in india.
